Man in Blue Scarf

I would like to share a book I read recently, The Man with the Blue Scarf, which is very inspirational for my painting. This book tells the story of the man in the blue scarf who modeled for the painter Lucian Freud. The author of this book is this model, his name is Martin Gayford, who participated in the entire creative process of the painting, and tells the story of the birth of the portrait from the perspective of the model. The theme of the book "The Man with the Blue Scarf" is unprecedented: it writes about how a man feels when he models for a brilliant artist, and how a master sits a man there The real situation is transformed into a work of art.

Lucian Freud with his model

I have always been curious about how Lucian works. Most of the figures he painted are stacked with rough brushstrokes and rich colors. They seem to be completed quickly. However, when I finished reading this book, I found this. Not the same as I thought. Lucian painted a lot of time to complete each of his works, a few months, half a year or even more than a year, I will take each of his paintings very seriously, when he paints, he is very serious It takes a long time to observe the image and color of the characters before writing. But a lot of his work was done at the same time. His serious and research attitude towards his works inspires me.

Lucian is painting in his studio

This "Man in Blue Scarf: Modeling Lucian Freud" takes the reader into one of the most private and secret places: the painter's studio. Through the daily conversations described in the book, readers can see the inner core of Freud, the contemporary master of art, from both psychological and technical aspects, so as to understand that portrait painting is indeed achieved through two people - the painter and the person in the painting A work of art created by face-to-face communication. Plus, something else is slowly building up, and in Freud's own words, the portrait is drawn stroke by stroke.
